SERP (Search Engine Results Page)

The SERP is the page of results a search engine returns for a query. It is no longer ten blue links — it is a battlefield of ads, snippets, maps, and AI answers.

What it means

A modern SERP mixes paid ads, organic listings, featured snippets, "People also ask," local packs, images, video, and increasingly an AI Overview at the very top. Each query type produces a different layout.

Why it matters

Ranking #1 organically means less when an AI Overview and four ads sit above you. Winning search now means understanding the specific SERP a query triggers and competing for the features that matter on it — snippets, the local pack, or a citation in the AI answer — not just the classic blue link.
